Yoy should move to Scotland - buying/selling houses is much less fraught under our system (I've lived in England, so have experienced both systems!) I think knitting by the pool would be a step too far for my husband - he gets embarrassed enough when I whip out the camera to take a photo of dinner in posh restaurants on holiday!!
