APB for Lost Hat

I’ve had a strange and scrappy week or two- in my life and my knitting. And I’ve had a knitting related loss.

The big news around here is that we’ve put our home up for sale – all those neatly painted, plain backdrops to my knitted creations could be yours -for a very large fee!!

This news means that a lot of my time has been spent on the inevitable house selling/buying admin but I’ve still had time to knit!

So what have I been up to?

Do you remember all that snow? We had 11″ of the cursed white stuff. Like any sensible adults who were prevented from getting to work by the snow, Ben and I went out to play…

…and Ben got thoroughly taunted by me for wearing a “nasty, shop bought hat”.

Like this…

“Ok! Ok! Knit me a hat then!” cried Ben (under threat of a large and menacing snowball)

“Ah Ha”, I thought, “just the response I was waiting for!”

I quickly showed him the picture of “Striped Hat” for Erika Knight’s Mens Knits book.

This hat…

from this book…

Maroon and grey were selected as the colours – Grey from stash and maroon from a lunchtime jaunt to Loop in Islington with my bewildered and very patient colleague, Christine.

It was a quick knit…two evenings of love driven labouring….

I have to admit it didn’t quite fit right – it seemed a bit “long”…there was definitely some “extra unwanted hat” at the crown.

Ben said he liked it though.

We laughed….

We took pictures….

Ben wore it to work for three days running in the cold…..

I was a happy, fulfilled knitter.

Then today he confessed…..

He’d left my lovingly crafted hat on the train and lost it. Before I even had a chance to photograph it properly to blog it!

So I must leave you , my readers, with the only evidence of my lovingly crafted hat, modelled by a very familiar feline….

By the way – if you travel on the train to Cannon Street and see someone wearing this hat – accost them for me – they found it and it belongs to Ben!

OK, so I have to ask about this. You’re in England, right? Well, I’ve been reading a lot about this crazy snowstorm. But when I think of GB, I think “overcast,” “green,” “wet” … so I would have thought it would be quite snowy there when it’s cold. And also, in that movie “The Holiday” (I think) with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, it was very snowy in England. I am quite confused.

But, I don’t blame anyone for freaking out upon a huge snowstorm, as I live in New Mexico, USA, and we freak if there’s an inch or two. Imagine what happened a few years ago when we got a once-in-50-years snowstorm!
I think in these situations it’s perfectly OK to wear PJ bottoms and dress boots

And I hope you tortured your cat a little

I can’t believe you are going to knit it for him again, I would have gone mental if someone lost my lovingly crafted knit just days after completion. You are much more generous knitter than I am. but then, you are probably a much faster knitter than I am so you are probably only twice as nice as I am rather than 4 times as nice, as I initially thought.

Even so, I think as the cat looks lovely in the hat, it should have gone feline-wards instead, as it probably would have been taken better care of!

I think you should leave Ben in Acrylic and make one for Thug- he is less likely to leave it on a train!

been awol due to starting a sock group on ravelry, last time i was here you’d accidentally made a cushion, so i had a lot of catching up to do, i must say i agree with craftycripple and arianwen, no hat for ben! and it looks sooo good on Thug. you can see Thug is truly appreciative and would never eat it like my sadie! and you are very bad, because I love how the socks turned out (been waiting to see) now i’m going to be spending more money on more sock yarn for more socks
    (secretly thankful)

Thug looks so cute in the hat, and you should totally knit Ben another hat, if only to get a couple more “cat in a hat” photos.

I think you should give up the hat idea – try mittens which you can attach to cord that can be threaded through his jacket. That way he won’t lose them. A winning idea for any age I always think!
