Good luck. If all else fails there is a really nice pattern in Yarn Forward this month for a hoodie in Big Wool.

Have you tried 12mm wooden needles? I usually find that the change in surface means that my tension alters, and this can often do the trick when a certain yarn is being recalcitrant with regard to gauge.

Ah well, if all else fails, there is always the charity shop option!! My big chunky cardigan looked similar to yours when I held it against me, but the armholes weren’t quite so low once it was sewn together, so fingers crossed that it turns out ok!

Love the cuffs. Very neat pattern. Hope it’s not too big once it’s finished. But I bet it’d make a lovely snuggle-fest for Thug if not!

I really, really hate to say this but the Big Wool sweater looks kind of dubious. I’m also concerned that the open work stitch, if not knitted tightly enough, will stretch with wear. Perhaps you’d have better luck looking for a Big Wool pattern in straight stockinette stitch, which would give the garment more structure. I too have lost my knitting mojo and am looking to get it back with a baby blanket – yarn due to arrive in the post today. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
