So, I needed some “mindless” knitting after the the whirlwind of knitting Icon.
What better than knit up the lovely Nimu yarns I bought at Ally Pally?
This yarn…

I was going to make Different Lines again as I was so pleased with it but that would be boring and I wanted to try another of Veera’s designs so Stripe Study it was.

Knit, knit, knit….
It was a very therapeutic easy knit, especially good for train journeys and knitting groups as it required minimum attention once you had got the basic method in your head.
Or so I thought!! 😮
I got 8 stripes in…
…and started to get a very uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach. It didn’t look right.
I checked Ravelry in case the pattern was wrong …
…but as two of my Guilty Knitter buddies and over 3000 people on Ravelry have made this pattern very successfully, I had to face the truth.
I AM AN IDIOT!
The basic method is easy once the center grey part is knit. After two rows of grey to make the thin stripe, the purple stripes are made up by kitting 20 stitches, wrapping and turning and knitting all the way back to the start (with some nifty increases thrown in). Next pair of rows, knit 20 stitches past where you wrapped and turned last time.
Easy.
Except I completely missed the part of the pattern that said when I started a purple stripe I should work two full rows, the entire width of the shawl, throwing in the increases as I go.
The result was a rather wonky and stunted Stripe Study shawl with a lot less increases one side than the other, the left hand side is at a much sharper angle than it’s supposed to be and the stripes are thinner 🙁

I tried to tell myself it wouldn’t matter…did another row – correctly this time. It was no good I couldn’t live with it. With the aid of my trusty ball winder for the purple yarn and hand winding for the grey – I ripped the whole thing 🙁

The good news is, that after a few dull train journeys and late trains – I’m back to this point and much happier with the progress!

Hmmm – that 4th stripe doesn’t look thick enough! I see more frogging in my future 🙁
This fits nicely in my handbag and will be my train knitting til it’s done. It will get done and done right!
But what have I knit over Christmas? Something fabulous and challenging…..
I rather like the Nimu yarns, I discovered them at Knit Nation a couple of summers ago. I do like the colours you have chosen. Happy New Year to you!
It’s impossible to leave it once there’s an error it haunts you forever so ripping is the only way. Can’t wait to see how it’s grown on Sunday as well as the fabulous and challenging!
I think the wonky version was adorable! But yeah, I know what you mean about the mistakes, they’ll haunt you in your sleep if you don’t do something about them.
omGOSH! You truly are funny , I LOVE reading your posts.
I wish I could knit a beautifully as you do. I’m the least likely type personality to knit, me thinks, do to the fact that I tend to procrastinate when I’m afraid to go to the next step in a pattern ( I read, re-read, re-re-read). The dress you did around Christmastime was exquisite. I think this wrap will be really pretty too.
Best Regards,
Elise
