I made Alabaster a year ago and never showed you – bad Susan! 😲
Alabaster is a lovely green cable jumper I bought the stuff for at Ally Pally way back in 2015.
Before I get carried away with the “story” – here she is…
It’s this pattern…Alabaster
Huge amount of detail in the cable placements going on here.
I made her in Leaf – a scrumptious green colour.
Merino and Baby Alpaca Aran
I tried to knit Alabaster in Jan 2016 but realised I had been given the wrong yarn (the eagle eyed will notice that’s DK in the photo!) – blogged here it in Disaster, Woe and a Success – at that point I left my readers hanging – would Yarn Stories (maker of yarn and pattern) sort out the yarn mix up? They were super sweet and arranged to replace the DK I had been given at the show with Aran weight of the same colour – they were exemplary of how a company should react to a mess up 🙂
The yarn and the pattern were great. I whipped it up in 2 months when I eventually got to knitting it September 2017 but I didn’t blog it??!!
I guess I’d better stop with the life-story of Alabaster and show you the neglected jumper ?! I bet you all just scroll to the piccies, huh?!
The detail in the design is great – the cuffs have a cable detail (a bit pilled because I’ve worn this a lot!)
And there are cables up the side seams that run all the way along the raglan seam of the sleeves to the neck…
And the back has all the same detail as the front – I have a hatred of garments that have a complex lump on the front and the rest is plain – always feels like a designer cop-out to me. This is how it should be done 😀
I have no idea why this didn’t get blogged sooner – it’s super pattern, warm, soft and snuggly yarn. I really must get around to doing another….

Name: | Alabaster |
Pattern: | Alabaster by Charlotte Johnson |
Yarn: | Yarn Stories Fine Merino and Baby Alpaca |
Pattern Problems: | None – well written and easy to follow |
Pattern Modifications: | None |
Washing and Wearing: | Hand washed carefully a few times and worn to death – a real fave – warm and easy to throw on over a T-Shirt. Has pilled but not excessively for luxury yarn. esp given the wear it gets and the “rubbing on a desk when I’m on a keyboard”. |
Knit It Again???: | Very possibly if the right yarn comes along |
Difficulty: | Medium – you need to watch the cables but if you like cables – it’s fine. |
Rating: | 5/5 |
