I was going to tell you about my latest finished garment but it is currently waiting to be pressed and sewn up and is looking like a very uninspiring, messy, navy blue heap!Ā Hmm – I guess that also means it’s not actually finished either š
Iāll leave the navy blue heap until I have some photos of it properly finished and modelled for you Ā – but I think Iām going to like it when itās done.
If I stop there that would be a pretty short blog post so I guess Iād better show you my latest project ā Iām really excited with this one Ā š
Itās Heligan by Sasha Kagan ā that was this one from the cover of issue 46 of The Knitter magazineā¦

Isnāt that pretty? It is all in moss stitch (plus a crochet edging) Moss stitch is not a favourite of mine to knit but it does give a lovely texture so Iām prepared to tolerate it for something this striking.
Heligan uses 7 different colours of Rowan Siena ā mercerised 4ply cotton ā 14 balls for my size – that would come in at a whopping Ā£70! Fortunately for me, Rowan Siena is, as near as I can tell, identical to the discontinued Jaeger Siena which I stashed in lots of different colours of the Jaeger Siena when it was discontinuedĀ š
After a good rummage and carefully planning the colours like thisā¦

I found I only had to buy 4 balls ā 2 x Oak, 1x Sloe and 1 x Madras Ā š
My colours are not perfect matches ā my sub for Korma (Light blue) is brighter and more saturated, I have white instead of cream and my Floret (Lilac) is much darker. But I think they look good togetherā¦

I have been avidly knitting this on the train on my commute (yes ā carrying 7 balls of wool in my handbag!) and at home every night. And have got to the armholes on the back already ā¦

Slightly different effect from Sasha Kaganās colours but I like that this version is a little bit mine. I donāt often see what a designer means when they describe their choice of colours but I am right there with Sahash Kagan when she describes these colours as being evocative of wild flowers on a misty summerās day.
Loving it so far š

I spotted this in your projects page on Ravelry, it is gorgeous!
Can hardly wait to see how the blue mess turns out and I’m really lovin’ the Heligan.
I actually like your colors better than the cover photo . . . yours seems to have more personality.
It’s coming along wonderfully! I like your colors..and yeah it does make it more yours..
I prefer your colours to the original. They are deeper and more saturated. It gives a much richer looking fabric.
Lovely!
I was worried this was going to be a cursed cardigan with the title “heligan”, glad to see that’s just the pattern name š
Jacqui – I had to laugh when I read that – it hadn’t occurred to me it sounded cursed – I had also just discovered my tension was out so I think you’ve got considerable foresight!!

Oh I love this yarn….I’ve just bought another batch of Rowan Sienna in a duck egg shade …really beautiful yarn to knit with – see my blog post today, if you have the time to pop over.
I love your colour choices, can’t wait to see it all knitted up.
