What’s that? Another new Kidsilk Hazealike yarn from Rowan, “Kidsilk Error”???
Errrm, No π
It’s me making a huge blunder in the sales.
I found myself at the John Lewis sale when the doors opened at 8:00am and dashed straight to the yarn department.
I was overjoyed to find that one of the “Kidsilks” was half price in the sale in lots of different colours.
I came home with several balls of Kidsilk Haze Glamour in these lovely colours…
Kidsilk Haze Glamour has small, subtle sequins studded through the yarn – I was full of plans of how to combine my new purchases with my existing Kidsilk Haze stash. Busily justifying the expense by telling myself how versatile it would be.
……….Then I entered the first colour into my Ravelry stash and it came up as worsted weight???
“That’s not right! Kidsilk Haze is Lace Weight??!!”, I scoffed.
Turns out, Kidsilk Haze Glamour IS worsted weight. Slap in between the Kidsilk Aura aran weight I have patterns for and the lace weight Kidsilk Haze.
*****Alert 4 Jan 2014*****
I have been advised that Ravelry was wrong and Kidsilk Glamour IS in fact the same gauge as Kidsilk Haze (Thanks Fiona)
Unfortunately – I had taken all the Glamour back the day before I heard this – I am in hell π
A quick look on Ravelry showed quite limited pattern support – scarves, shawls and boleros mainly. (As an aside – does anyone knit boleros any more??! I am so over them now. There seems to be one in every new book of knitting designs – I suspect they are easy for the designers to throw together but I await the angry comments of the “Bolero Protectionist Party” to come flooding in π )
I don’t need a dozen new sparkly scarves and I don’t have the time to work out how to combine it with my KSH stash so this goes down as a great blunder and will (mostly) be returned – which will help my bank balance at least. Maybe a couple of balls of the blue need to be stashed….
At least the trip wasn’t a complete loss – I did snuffle up some beautiful Red Rowan Drift and a pack of grey Alpaca Cotton too – I’ll be keeping these π
Oh that is a shame Susan, at least you can take it back though.
I am looking forward to seeing your creations throughout 2014.
I haven’t knitted anything for ages. I need to get back to it soon.
Happy New Year and keep the blogs coming I love reading them.
I’ve knit with Glamour and think you’ll find it knits better as a sport weight or dk weight, something more like 21-26 stitches to 4 inch depending what needle size and how dense or lightweight you want your fabric. To get 18 sts. per 4 in. you’ll have to use large needles and the fabric will be very airy. I loved it and knit it at 21 for a light dk weight. I’ll be curious to see what you make with it, good luck!
I snaffled a couple of balls of the glamour too with no real project in mind – other than it looks nice!!
Ooh that grey is gorgeous! Shame about the others, but at least you realised, I’d have ony checked months later…
I’ve knittted with KSH Glamour several times now, and in my opinion it is exactly as versatile as the original KSH. I can confirm that you can substitute one for the other with no problem whatsoever. The yarn feels rather different, but the gauge is the same.
I think also that the entry on Rav for this yarn as worsted weight was made in error – it seems to have now been corrected. If you look now, you’ll see that this yarn shows identical gauge information to KSH, 18 to 25 sts to 10cm on 2.75mm to 4mm needles. And the Rowan website shows the same, by the way.
So, I think you can breathe again! – and you don’t actually have to return any of it. Now, is that good or bad? π
Oh Crap! I returned it all yesterday π
Thanks so much for the info though Fiona – I’ll think about buying some more!
