After baring my soul and confessing to overspending on knitting lovelies, fate decided to tempt me…..with free tickets to Unravel!
Unravel is an independent Festival of Knitting, held in Farnham, Surrey. Here’s a link to find out more –>>Unravel Festival
So where did I get free tickets? First, I checked out the free online event registration software and I won a competition run by Purl Alpaca – creators of the lovely Icon dress and Esme on Twitter. I was so thrilled – I had never won a competition like that before 😀
Farnham is quite a long drive away – about one and a half hours, but boy, was it worth it!
The show is in a craft centre which is a beautiful converted Oast house and buildings, decorated with cute, yarn giving beasts…
Inside was room after room of fabulousness. It was very crowded (I went Saturday morning) and there were a lot of stairs. I probably wouldn’t recommend this show for anyone with walking difficulties, But the was so much to see. Everywhere I looked there were stand from independent producers with sumptuous, high quality products. Evey time I though I’d seen everything, there was another room to explore.
It wasn’t all knitting either, I was fascinated by the spinning stands too.**No Susan! You cannot take up another hobby!**
I did try and take photos but the crowds and my wobby phone camera didn’t do the day justice…
First I had to go say, “Hello and Thank you” to Kari-Helene and Tracey on the Purl Alpaca stand.
They were especially pleased to see that I had worn my completed Honesty to show off for them – They had to take a snap!
So did I weaken and buy even more yarn?
I’m ashamed to say I did 😳
I felt it would be rude not to buy something from Purl Alpaca (great excuse huh!) so I treated myself to their Hero Boot Cuff kit.
Then I fell victim to the Stitch in Time stand. You might remember I knit a sample for both of the volumes of the Stitch in Time books -I blogged about it here ->> Top Secret – Declassified
This was the garment…

So – I had the books – what wowed me? I saw my favorite garment made up on a dummy and available as a kit…
This is the Book picture – The Lady’s evening jumper…
I’ve show you that because my piccy of the stand doesn’t do it justice…
So I succumbed and bought the kit to make it in this lovely Juno Alice Lace …
It’s going to be a real challenge – I’ve not really knit in yarn that fine before (unless you count Kid Silk Haze!) but at least I know that lace patter (Frosted Flowers) it’s the same as my Halcyon!
That is going to suit you so well! The colour choice is great too. I’m glad you had a fun day out, it’s always nice to get a freebie. I can’t wait to see you wearing that lovely sweater.
I decided that Unravel was just that bit too far the other side of the M25 for me to justify the trip so it was good to read all about it! I am going to Wool Fest in June which I am incredibly excited about and I also have Fibre East to look forward to in July, so plenty of yarny spending opportunities heading my way later in the year! Oh, go on, take up spinning!! It is loads of fun! You know you want to!
ohh, I have a skein of Juno yarn that I’ve been knitting a circular scarf with for about 2 years. It’s lovely stuff. Race you to the finish? (I’m about half way through)
Oh you’re so lucky! I’d love to go to a fiber festival 🙂
