Misurina is more spicy than I expected! So much going on in this little top.
This week I swatched and cast on another of my aquisitions from Unravel festival in February – Misurina Tee by Caitlin Hunter.
This is the pattern pic…
Lace around the neck. And cables. And a big fairisle pattern with huge floats (I have a plan for those). And if that wasn’t enough, a choice body in either of a purl stitch or eyelet pattern. Phew!
I’m making her in beautiful yarn from Nervus fibres – their Linen singles in Rift and Arches (wesite here but closed for the holidays www.nervusfibre.com)
I’m hoping the yarn’s varigation doesn’t drown out all the lace and cable detail – I wasn’t thinking about that when I was in a buying frenzy at Unravel 🙄
Good thing I swatched! The main needle size is 3.5mm, I tried 4mm and an now on 4.5mm and, if I’m honest – it’s still on the tight side. 4 ply yarn and 20 st x 10cm – that’s almost DK gauge!!
I even washed and pressed my swatch as I was concerned the linen might cause the yarn to relax – happy to report the yarn “fulled” slightly but held its gauge – it is buttery soft and has fabulous drape – I can see me knitting with this yarn again – I’m a fan already 🙂
I’m making the 3rd size, allowing a massive 10″ positive ease and hoping it’ll work out – it is supposed to have 6″ – 9″ ease….I’m playing tension roulette 😮
To be fair – there is a note in the pattern to effectively tell you to work out your own gauge…
Needles
Note! Needle size is suggested only, you will need to swatch and block to determine the needle size needed to achieve gauge.
Ribbing: US 2/2.75 mm
Main Needle: US 4/3.5 mmGauge:
20 sts and 24 rounds over 4” 10 cm in colorwork/ cable pattern, and body pattern (purl dots or eyelets) after blocking with main neeldeSwatch both colorwork and dots pattern as you may need
to change needle sizes to maintain an even gauge. You
should always knit your swatch the same way that the pattern is knit —in this case, in the round. Block your swatch as you will your finished garment and allow it to dry fully before measuring.
Progress so far?
I’ve done the neck, the shortrow shaping for the back (complete with markers because I tend to loose the wraps!!) and today completed the lacey neck- now the fairisle….
Watch this space for progress….
What a beautiful pattern. I think your yarn choice is working.
Thank you ! We will see…..
Definitely working, it looks fab so far.
