Picture it readers, a shivering, knitless Ben, lookingĀ imploringlyĀ at the jumper I’m knitting him, silently berating me for knitting for another man and his current lack of new knit wear.
(OK, maybe I’m hamming this up just a tiny bit for dramatic effect š )
As Drifter is too large and complicated to take on the train for my commuting knitting, I gave the lovely Ben the choice of my sock yarn stash.Unfortunately the man has great taste and zoomed in on this lovely yarn that I had snaffled up to use for myself!
It’s Jawoll Magic by Lang..
I’ve not knit with this sock yarn before, normally sticking to the durable workhorse of Regia but I was pleasantly surprised. It felt very thin when I started and I wondered it the tension would be off but it seems to fluff up a bit as youĀ knitĀ with it and the tension was OK.
I was also concerned about getting the stripes in the socks to match – I know there is serious debate amongst serious sockĀ knittersĀ about “Twin socks” vs. “Fraternal socks”. Ā It is really uncomfortable for me if they don’t match – I am firmly on the “Twin Sock” side. I’m certainly not OCD in aĀ clinicalĀ senseĀ but if there is a “normal line”, I’mĀ definitelyĀ one small step over on the OCD side! Fortunately, Lang yarns cater for obsessives like me and the seemingly random colourĀ progressionsĀ started again, exactly half way through the ball š
Three Ā weeks of train journeys and lucky Ben was able to excitedly try on his new socks – even Dr House (Hugh Laurie) was excited!! (Reruns of House are my current fave knitting TV)
Here’s a better shot of Ben’s new socky loveliness…
AndĀ slightlyĀ more stylish modelling…
Ben is now happy and I’ve bought myself some time to finish his Drifter š

What cosy looking socks; he’s a very lucky boy!
I too am loving the house box set at the moment. I’m not completely sure, but I think House is berating Ben for shivering… perhaps…
I haven’t knit socks with with Jawoll, I’ll be interested in hearing how they stand up to being worn and washed. I always knit my socks with Regia because I want my socks to last, but it Jawoll works well too, I will be snapping up their yarn in a flash, because the colours are so pretty.
Very snazzy socks!
I love how Ben’s other socks are discarded on the floor in the joy of NEW SOCKS! š
I have never been brave enough to knit socks – what if I really like knitting them and then I become an addict to sock knitting! You are certainly trying to persuade me with these lovely colours in soft yarn – nearly tempted. I have just completed a hat using scraps for my big girl check out here..

I quite often use Jawoll to knit socks and it stands up very well to robust use (1 husband, 2 sons) and dog attacks (1 small dog bringing down 3 fully grown men by grabbing their socks off their feet). However, I don’t tempt fate by tumble drying!
Fab! Love the colours and they look lovely and soft!
Hi there, my mom just moved to greenhithe from the US and I’m looking for a knitting group for her. I saw on another website you had a great blog and livestock in the area and you would be a good person to ask!
Thanks Victoria
