I just had to start something new while I was waiting for a gadget to finish off my Tabby-Cat.
Tabby-Cat is all finished and sewn up except for part of the side seams where I need to sew in the ties. I really didn’t like the design of the ties in the pattern – 2 rows knit, 2 rows purl. I thought they would stretch out of shape really fast – I knit a little and hated it…
I decided to use an i-cord tie but didn’t fancy making that much so i-cord manually so I’m waiting on an i-cord maker from ebay. More on that and the potential fun to be had with an electric drill and an i-cord maker is for another post!
So what have I started? The autumn/winter Rowan mag no. 54 is out and it is stuffed with things I’d like to make 😀 So much in Kidsilk Haze too! (And we all know I have one or two balls in my stash 😉 )
I think Rowan have really surpassed themselves in this issue – they suddenly seem to have caught up with the rest of the knitting world and are talking about knitting in the round, steeking (really good article!) and historical patterns. So what to choose? There was one pattern that clearly shone out above all the others but needed a mighty 9 balls of KSH – others might think,
“Ouch, that’s a lot of KSH to buy”
But I thought,
“Yippee! Another 9 balls of my huge KSH stash used up!”
It’s this pattern – Vivaldi..
It’s quite a simple lace pattern and knit with a double strand of KSH (that’s how it manages to use up 9 balls). I’m super intrigued by that neck too.
I guess for some, KSH around their neck like that would be irritating but I have KSH scarves and I know I’m OK with it – it’s also going to be incredibly thick and warm – maybe too warm for some but when I cold – I’m really cold and love a snuggly warm jumper so it’s all good for me 🙂
My next “problem” was what colour? I’m embarrassed to say I had the choice of 9 balls of 9 different colours Kid Silk something (Haze, Night and Spray)!
I laid out all my colour choices and, with Purcey’s help, tried to choose.
Purcey sulked because I wouldn’t let him play with the yarn and hid in the corner of the knit room…
Then I got a proper look at the colours…
It was easy to rule out the Kidsilk spray – variegated yarn would have been too busy with the lace too – but I struggled – in the end I plumped for Colour 596 -Marmalade. A beautiful rich orangey colour – helped by the Guilty Knitters who thought it would suit me and the fact that I have seen the colour in clothes in the shops a lot this year.
So how is it knitting? Really fast!
It’s hard to get a good photo of the stitch pattern with all the fuzz …
This is a week’s work on the back..
This is going to be such fun 😀
Purcey is evidently a kitten with great taste, and I think it your duty to knit him a little something out of KSH!!! I rather like the sound of an icord maker. I shall await further news of yours – I’m thinking of edging a blanket in icord and your gadget sounds perfect.
I agree Rowan have done really well this season. It’s difficult to imagine wearing warm jumpers while it’s so warm but autumn is only a couple of moths away after all. The neckline is interesting – gives a sort of built in scarf effect and would look good under a coat I think. Not that we knitters are short of a scarf or two!
Good call Purcey. How did Susan ever manage to decide before you came along? You will be able to curl up unseen on her lap when she wears Vivaldi in Marmalade. x
It is even more beautiful in real life. A great design to use up some of that stash. Purcey is looking good too
Love it! I love that you chose the orange, so many hate on orange….can’t wait to see it finished…
I love Purcey 🙂
I adore Marmalade, I think it’s my favourite KSH colour, along with Jelly. I do like some zing! It’s going to look great on you.
That jumper is going to look gorgeous. Can’t wait to see the finished article. Love the photos of Purcey too.
I agree that this is the best mag Rowan have done yet, and they have made some progress towards the modern knitting world with this issue, but I find it odd that along with the articles about knitting in the round and steeking, there are no projects in the book showcasing these techniques. Even the beautiful ‘Anatolia’ is knitted in sections and seamed. Still a way to go, Rowan.
Good colour choice, by the way, here in Germany orange is very popular!
Beautiful jumper.. and the colour should tone in perfectly with Purcey ^..^ 🙂
I can see we’ll hit it off when we meet – my favourite colour is orange, I love anything fluffy and that pattern made my jaw drop. So beautiful. Can’t wait to see the finished item!
