Back from delinquent blogging after another health drama (under control now).
After getting more and more tired and myself increasingly out of breath (like gasping for air after walking up the stairs or stopping several times walking up a hill that I ran up last year), I discovered I had several massive clots in my lungs. I’m now getting used to living on huge doses of blood thinners. I’m more tired than I should be and really feeling the cold but otherwise on the mend…
Feeling the cold???……Maybe I should knit a big, soft, pretty, squishy warm jumper then?!
Back in Feb 24, at Spring Unravel, I kept circling back to the Zakami Yarns stand. I was going a bit “yarnblind” as the whole show was full of beautifully dyed 4ply (Which I didn’t need) – But this eye-candy kept pulling me back……
Love that colour name – “Cycling on the Milky Way” – There are other yarns in that colour way if you don’t fancy Bulky Boucle! Really reminded me of a jumper I had and loved around 1980. I bought 5 skeins….
I knew I wanted a basic big jumper with a generous roll neck – the kinda thing that is very warm and I could throw on over any old ratty T-Shirt.
After some spirited swatching, I liked 12mm needles and stocking stitch – the yarn didn’t need fancy stitch patterns.
All I needed now was a pattern…
I kinda made it up, heavily inspired by this book by Anne Budd from 2004.
I did the 40″ finished chest (6″ ease”) drop sleeve sweater but the chart didn’t go low enough for my mega bulky yarn. So I chose the column that was double the gauge and halved the number of stitches (and guessed and tried on a lot).
Enough background – wanny see it?
The neck is just a long 1×1 rib tube. The cast off tucks the edge under nicely. There is 1×1 rib at the cuffs and hem to stop it rolling but it’s hard to see.
Some more pics to show you, including Kitty who adores this yarn and was nesting in my knitting at every opportunity…
I’m really happy with this and love the yarn from Zakami – I hope I have done it justice!

Looks gorgeous, I love the colours. I’m glad you are on the mend xx
Love it, you look so cosy. Sorry to read you have been unwell but glad to see you are well on the road to recovery. xx
It looks great on you! I would be afraid to knit such as large yarn.
