Perfect Knitting Gift Found in Sainsburys!

October 13th, 2008, 8:29 pm

I am officially trying to start a consumer’s panic buying frenzy on an item in Sainsbury’s.

When doing my boring weekly food shop on Sunday, I spotted what is arguably the most reasonably priced, inspired gift for any knitaholic.

Its this…

A china mug that looks like it is knitted, filled with yummy shortbread!!!
And look at that pattern detail!!!

I have seen fabulous designer vases from Loop for significant prices…£22 was the cheapest for a tea light holder - I’m not mean but I drooled and wanted to buy a vase but resisted because of the price - it seemed an indulgence. I loved the concept though.

So how much is the fabulous Sainsbury’s mug?

It’s £4. And that included 2 little packs of shortbread!

I had to have one. It’s my new favourite mug.

And the shortbread?… it didn’t make it home from the supermarket

It’s my  Mum’s birthday this week. She still knits a great deal and knitting is a great “bonding” topic for us. Three guesses what she’ll be getting in with her presents!

If you know some one who knits - Go buy them one of these!!!

** not sponsered by Sainsbuy in any way!! **

You’ve done it now! You’ve started the stampede! I’m off down there without delay……. I’m still not convinced that you’re not on the Sainsbury’s payroll though.

Oooo, now you have given me an idea for my next ceramics project, bet I can make this cheaper than sainsbury’s but it may not be quite (nowhere near) as good.

You sod! What an enabler you are! Hah! I had to go to Sainsbury of course after reading this. I turned the store upside down looking for it and finally after collaring a very rare sight (a member of staff) I was led to the hidey hole of these. I got one. I now wish I had bought several because its sitting on my desk right now full of coffee and is very nice!!!!!! Thank you for the tip (ps the shortbread did make it home with me haha)

You inspired me - I went off and bought one of these for myself to replace a favourite mug that got broken recently - I think it’s already my new favourite. Thanks for the idea!

That mug is everything a knitter wants! I don’t live in the UK, but am going to Edinburgh later this month. I cross my fingers that they still have it in Sainsbury then. Thanks for the info.

I’ve googled till my fingers bled, but can’t find one of these mugs anywhere online. Do you know the brand of the mug? Is there a mark on the bottom? I’d love to have one (or several!). I live in the USA, so no Sainsbury’s anywhere close.

Hi - have seen same lovely mug, 6 weeks on (am behind the times). I managed to get a few on 3 for 2 but having mentioned it on ravelry, they seem to be in short supply! Mine’s gone to FC for my stocking. Can’t wait to start using it. Looks like it needs some hot chocolate in it if you ask me!

    Thanks
