I’m very happy to tell you about my successes so I feel it’s only fair to share the disasters with you too …

I should have know better than to try knitting Chunky Wool again 🙁

But the lovely red Rowan Drift (same gauge as Big Wool) at half price was too hard to resist….

I decided to knit Flossie, another big loose jumper (obviously I was in denial) – I really liked the big roll neck. This was supposed to be a quick treat of a knit in between finishing off some of my outstanding WIPS. What could possibly go wrong?

This is the Flossie pattern pic (which on closer inspection shows it must be pinned at the back to give it that much shaping because there is none in the pattern!)…

Because I remembered that I had had problems with my tension being too tight with Ronnie, I decided to knit the medium size to negate the problem, not my usual small.

However I had forgotten on important fact. This was a Martin Storey pattern. Everything of his that I ( and all the members of the Guilty Knitters) had knitted came up very big.

I knit the back, front and sleeves in a week – my tension was perfect (I should have heard warning bells as I had allowed for tight tension) 😳

It’s a really easy slip stitch rib – I was enjoying the knitting 🙂

Another week to sew up and knit the neck – it took a whole week because it was too big to knit on the train !

I have to say it slotted together perfectly and was a well written, easy  pattern.

………………..Then I tried it on……….

It was HUGE 😥

But to be fair to Martin Storey – it had knit up to bang on the dimensions for a Medium size shown in the pattern schematics. It had only used 9 of the 12 balls that the pattern called for though – Grr!

Medium is 5″ bigger than the small – you can see how much if I show you holding it to fit…

Terri commented on my post “Resolutions and Another Alpaca Lovely” That she though I was dubious about chunky yarn – If I wasn’t before, I am now!

So what to do?

Build another Big Wool Bonfire?

No, That would be silly.

As it was such a quick knit I decided to rip out the back, front and neck and reknit the small size. Luckily, the shaping for the sleeve heads is the same for small and medium so hopefull I can get away without reknitting those too.

I’ve now reknit the back and nearly done the front again – I’ll let you know if there will be another bonfire ! 😯
