I made this!…And it’s not Kidsilk Haze!!
How can this be?
When I saw this image in a mailshot from the online knitting store, Deramores, I instantly fell in love.
I wear that shape of shawl as a scarf and around my shoulders quite a lot – I wanted to make it. But, as someone who has been accused of holding the “National Collection” of Rowan Kidsilk Haze in my stash, I thought I had better do a stash dive first….
EEEEK!!! I just checked how much KSH I have while writing this post – including part balls I have 251 balls!! **Horrified**
The shawl has 5 balls of different coloured of Scheepjes Mohair Rhythm (a Rowan Kidsilk Haze-alike yarn) and 5 balls of the same colours in Scheepjes Alpaca Rhythm (Rowan Fine Lace a like but with 80% alpaca, not 20% like Rowan’s)
I had plenty of KSH I could use but only 2 colours of Rowan fine lace that were not really in the right colourways.
Here’s the (financially) interesting part – To buy 3 balls of Rowan fine Lace would cost around £21 (If I used what I had and could make a pleasing color combination) or I would buy the yarn kit from Deremores for £25 for all 10 balls and have the stunning colours you see here. I bought the pack!
Colour pack in here if you are interested -> Link to Deramores colour pack
I was expecting the yarn to be almost as good as the Rowan but it was better! The Mohair is slightly softer than KSH and less itchy next to the skin and the Alpaca is softer than the fine lace (I love alpaca too!) I’m seriously impressed with the Scheepjes yarns and will be looking their way again if I ever need to buy laceweight again (which will be in about 40 years if I use my stash first!)
Enough about the yarn – what about the knitting?
This was an easy, mindless knit, ideal for knitting on my commute or at a knitting group where I can’t concentrate complex patterns. The solid looking bars are 18 rows garter stitch with a strand each of the Mohair Rhythm and the Alpaca Rhythm, followed by 18 rows stocking stitch with just the Mohair Rhythm. Then change colour and repeat 🙂 The pattern is so easy but very effective showing off the stunning colour combination
Of course, Pixie was always on hand to assist and give the yarn a good chewing if it needed it!
This certainly on my “make another in a different colourway” list 😀
So how does it look on?
Or just to snuggle up with 😀
