I now have a backlog of “Finished Objects”to share with you but here’s a quick little one , fresh off the needles π
My Flying Monkey Socks…
I love Cookie A’s sock patterns but I had never made Monkey – beloved by several members of the Guilty Knitters.
…and I had a flight to Miami with 9 hours “knitting time” with nothing suitable on the needles and a stash of sock yarn – what is a girl to do?
Monkey socks, knit on a flight – hence the “Flying Monkeys”!! (and a nod to the Wizard of Oz…)
The Miami trip was a 4 day work award for the lovely Ben – because he is great at what he does. I was invited along as the very proud wife π
We were utterly spoilt…
Watched sunrises…
Ate ridiculously large portions of food (this was a starter for one, apparently!)
And drank and photographed several cocktails ππΈπΉπ₯πΊ
Enough holiday snaps – back to the socks!
The yarn is Lang Super Soxx Bamboo (50% wool, 35% bamboo and some nylon) It’s very soft and silken and gives great stitch definition. This ball has been waiting patiently in my stash since 2011 (!) – overdue to be knit π
Monkey is actually an easy knit – the basic sock is very similar to the basic Regia plain sock I often make. However – the pattern is over 64 stitches on 2.5mm needles(I usually do 60 for my little feet) and these have come up a bit big. I’m worried that with the bamboo, once they get washed they will give and be huge on me. If I make them again it will be on 2.25mm needles.
The actual stitch pattern is cute and gives an almost cable like texture but with only yarnovers and decreases…
Left over yarn? – Quite a lot – I’m clearly on my way to amassing enough sock yarn for my next Sock Yarn Blanket!
Here are a couple of the finished socks in their obligatory beauty parade…
All is not lost – my sister Carol fell in love with them and has graciously offered to rehome them for me if they are too big!
