One less WIP! I’ve finished the Tartan Blanket 😀
This has turned out beautifully – I’m very happy.
Here’s the whole thing, complete with edging…
The boring shot…
I have been slogging away and perhaps overdone it as my hands now ache and my wrist was starting to twinge – it is quite hefty crocheting 2 strands of DK. No more crochet for me for a few weeks – I’ll have to get on with the other knitting WIPS.
On the blanket, once I’d finished 729 blobs (*shudder at 729 ends to sew in*), there was the edging.
The pattern called for 5 rows of DC all around the edge in 5 different colours. I did the first round and ran out of “teal” 8 blobs before the end of the round. Grrr! 👿 Somehow I had slightly different amounts left of some colours – weird as theoretically I should have used exactly the same amount of each??? I didn’t want to buy more yarn just for the edging and I didn’t want to join the round at random points because it would look messy (the whole blanket follows some strict geometrical rules). I decided to do 2 sides in one colour and change to a different colour for the next two sides. I ended up using all the colours in the edging except the pink. Pink would have been too attention grabbing, especially if it was only on 2 sides.
I think it worked very well – what do you think?
My solution to the running out of yarn issue
At this point in my photo shoot, Kitty realised the blanket was out. She has been obsesed with sitting on my lap every time I was working on this. She clearly loves it but I am determined this won’t end up another cat blanket!

I did have some ends left over and I wasn’t terribly inspired by scraps of acrylic – all I could think of was to put them in the ever growing bag to make Innocent Smoothie Big Knit hats for next year. My friend Jenny came to my rescue at the Guily Knitters- she knows a little girl who is learning to knit and desperate for yarn to play with 🙂

Now I guess the question is, if not a cat blanket – what am I going to do with it?
It is destined to live in my conservatory with the Conservatory Cushion like this…
I can’t believe how well that mix of colours goes in that room 😀

Hi Chris – not too many. I have no idea in actual hours but it took me about 4 weeks of free time to complete – for a large blanket I though that was good.
